Back in late November I spent the day in Rosendale, NY shooting a profile of this tiny hamlet for Ulster Magazine. Below you can see the pages from the magazine and my 2 best shots of the day (one from the Rosendale Theater and the other from inside Market Market Cafe) as well as a slideshow of a number of other photos from Rosendale.
The photo from inside the Rosendale Theater was totally unexpected. I went into there thinking it would be a shot on the stage with one person. Well instead eight people showed up and the inside of the theater was about as plain vanilla as your could get. The wheels in my head started spinning…… what to do….. Then it came to me. I setup 5 lights had 3 groups of subjects hold them in their hands and the other two groups (down front and in the back on the right) I had the lights on stands tightly snooted. The first few shots were cool but the theater was black. I lengthened the exposure to allow some of the ambient light turn show up on the chairs …and there you go.
