On Wednesday morning I was asked to head over to Goshen to shoot a portrait for the front page for a story about Ken Tschan of the Goshen Music Hall. This was to be the cover photo for the Thanksgiving edition of the Times Herald-Record. The story was about Ken and how he is thankful to have survived cancer and treatment. So I figured since this guy is the artistic director at a theater I should go for a dramatic portrait. As I walked to the theater I went down a great arched hallway. I know right away I would be shooting in the hallway before I left. As we walked into the theater I knew right away what I could do with lighting. I used 4 lights for the portraits in the theater. One red gelled strobe on the floor to light up inside the arch, a softbox up high in front of Ken and 2 bare strobes left and right of Ken to create the side lighting on Ken. In the hallway I used 2 lights: one softbox in front of Ken and one bare strobe at the end of the hallway. I love these portraits. These are some of the coolest images I have shot in a long time. Thanks for being so agreeable to make a great portrait Ken. Here are the pages in print as well as the shots that were not used.
