On Monday I was tasked with taking a photo illustration of an iPhone. The story was about an Orange County man suing Apple over iPhone apps that tracked his location and sold the info to advertisers (read more here).
I was excited. Whenever I get to shoot a photo illlustration in the studio it gives me a chance to try new techniques and lighting setups.
For this shot I needed the exposure of the screen to come out just right to the screen could be read. I shot it against white seamless about 25 feet in front of the seamless. A monolight was used on the background. 2 sb25s with bounce umbrellas high on the left and right of subject slightly back at 1/8 power. Exposure was ISO 500. 1/60, f4.5.
I was very happy with the results. It almost looks like an ad shot.
However, late in the day breaking news of a plane crash near Middletown came up. The image was used on the cover but only as a small tease.
