Setup tripod directly above empty glass on white poster board. 2 strobes. One camera left pointed at foamboard reflector at 1/2 power. One camera right off foamboard reflector at 1/4 power. Set exposure and focus. Set 5 second delay on shutter and began to pour the beer.
I also shot a more creative alternate but it ended up not being used.
SETUP FOR THE ALTERNATE SHOT
Set on table with top split open about 1 inch. Set down black poster board. Cut 1 inch hole directly below where the beer glass is set. Set a plate of glass above poster board. 1 strobe at 1/4 power below table pointed up through the hole. This created the glowing effect in the beer. The set black foam core behind the subject for background.
To create highlights on the glass I placed homemade softbox behind and around the black background (Similar setup here).
Then filled in detail on my hand with a bounce umbrella camera right flagged to stop light from falling on the beer glass.
Only minor dodging and burner after that in post.
