For a recent edition of Orange Magazine I was assigned to photographer Denis Mulcahy at the Waterstone Inn in Greenwood Lake. I walked around for a few minutes finding the best spot. There was a corner with various decorations and a great lamp. I used a strobe in a small softbox with a grid to focus the light on Denis creating the effect of making it look like the lamp was lighting him. I used a second strobe pointed at the ceiling to fill in the shadows slightly. I love the way the light falls on him and falls off around him. See the setup shot for more.
