This year I photographed the four Orange County Arts Council honorees for Orange Magazine. My goal for these was to create varying portraits for each. For Jimmy Sturr I shot in his home in Florida in front of his many Grammy Awards and also in front of some of his gold records. The Grammys surround him like a halo framing in perfectly.
For Debra Fina, we went to a local park in Cornwall, where she lives. The light beaming through the fall leaves created a dramatic and powerful portrait of the movie producer.
For Angela Prictoe, I photographed her in her home. First we shot inside where I lit the portrait to give it a studio feel and have everything in the background go to black. We then went outside where the clouds were pretty dark and looming. I went for a few low angle portraits with her trombone for a really dramatic look.
Robert Whitman wanted to shoot at the Seligmann Center for the Arts in Sugar Loaf. As soon as I walked upstairs and saw the light streaming through the window I knew I had a spot for a great portrait.
Here are the portraits and page from the magazine.
