This assignment actually involved 5 different shoot on 5 different days throughout June. A very big shoot with many parts, but that challenge was the fun part. For the cover and inside with the kids from NFA in Newburgh I shot with a blue gelled light behind them (including the cover shot). These were kids in a tech class and I wanted to give the photo a cool techy feel. The cover shot looses some of the effect since the sides were cropped out. You can see the wide example in the set of photos. We also shot outside the building on the steps. The sun was bright that morning so I used 2 strobes at full power to spotlight the kids. The effect worked well, but wasn’t used in the magazine. For Pine Bush I used a red gelled light to match the color of their 3D printed motorcycle. The other shoots for the education story were from Monroe-Woodbury with the little kids (seen on the pages here) and then a an NFA nursing teacher that was part of a second story (will post next week)
